Useful information:
San Francisco is well known for its Victorian row houses. Interestingly, for users of Houseplans.com, many of these late 19th century houses were built from stock plans. The term Victorian itself is very broad and roughly corresponds to the dates of Queen Victoria's reign; Victorians evolved over time, generally becoming more ornate as wood-turning machinery and milling techniques became more sophisticated. Consequently within the overall term "Victorian" are many style ranges, from Italianate and Stick Style to Queen Anne. A fine Queen Anne style Victorian that's open to the public is San Francisco's Haas-Lilienthal House from 1886 (http://www.sfheritage.org/house.html ) by Peter Schmidt. |
